Aptly enough Las Vegas’s only oldies radio station was launched in 1956 under the call letters KVOV-AM. Over the years various other call letters and formats appeared at our spot on the dial. KREL-AM, KDOL-AM, KDOX-AM. At one point it was even a Spanish language station! But on December 31, 2010, it changed call letters one last time to KQLL-AM, and the format centered on hit music of the ’50s, ’60s, 70’s and Motown. Today it is owned and operated by Summit Media, Inc. and longtime broadcaster, Scott Gentry. It still exists and is Southern Nevada’s only OLDIES station.
KOOL102FM/1280AM is one of the very few area radio stations heard on both the AM and the FM side of the dial. It enjoys the largest reach of any Las Vegas-based radio station and can be heard from the California state line to St. George, Utah. It has a massive regional signal reaching millions of listeners every day. Do-wah-ditty-ditty-ditty-dum-ditty-do!
