KNEV is the longest continuously operating FM station in the state of Nevada, having signed on Christmas day 1953. Since its original air date in 1953, KNEV has maintained its original call sign and frequency. KNEV was originally an easy listening station and remained that way for many years. In 1992, KNEV was relaunched as "Magic 95", with a soft adult contemporary format, and would compete with crosstown station KRNO (Sunny 106.9).
In 1995, in an effort to improve ratings, the station shifted towards a hot AC format, while retaining the Magic name. The 70s songs were dropped from the playlist as the station focused on hits from the 1980s and 90s.
In September 2000, the station had transitioned to adult top 40. In 2001, the station was renamed "Mix 95.5".
The station would remain adult top 40 until November 2004, when the station flipped to an all-Christmas format. The station was named "Magic" once again. On December 26, the station adopted a mainstream adult contemporary format.
Magic 95.5 currently airs an Adult Contemporary format, which is composed of newer artists such as Coldplay, Rob Thomas, Taylor Swift, Nickelback, P!nk, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, and Michael Bublé along with artists from the 80s and 90s to include the Goo Goo Dolls, U2, Madonna, Dave Matthews Band, Alanis Morissette, Jewel and more.
