In 1979, KRNO changed to an adult contemporary format. The station was known as "107 K-Reno" for many years. In October 1994, management decided to soften the station's musical approach. The station was renamed "Sunny 106.9 - Reno's Soft Music Station". The station had a local evening love songs program until 1997, when the show was replaced with Delilah Rene’s nationally syndicated program.

Over the years, Sunny’s adult contemporary format has been largely unchanged. However, as with other adult contemporary stations across the country, Sunny has been adding songs from hotter AC artists to its playlist, including John Mayer, Kelly Clarkson, Rob Thomas, Avril Lavigne, Goo Goo Dolls, Lifehouse and Gwen Stefani

In recent years, Sunny has been playing all-Christmas music during the holidays. The format change usually occurs on the week before Thanksgiving. Sunny switches back to its AC format on December 26.
