Use of the term pre-dates the establishment of the current city of Eden, North Carolina, as WLOE was originally licensed to the town of Leaksville, which merged into Eden in 1967.
The WLOE studios and transmitter were originally located just outside of Leaksville, in the town of Spray, North Carolina, "...on the busy Boulevard..." as it was often referred to on the air. In the 1960s, FM service was added on 94.5 MHz, at the dial position now occupied by WGBT.[citation needed] Mike Moore joined the station as news director in 1972.
