WYAK-FM "Big Yak" signed on with a country music format in the 1970s. Later the name was changed to Y-103. An AM frequency was added at 1270, though WYAK became a separate station around 1990, first calling itself WXMB and playing southern gospel music. The station became WYAK again later, the first Myrtle Beach area station to air Rush Limbaugh, and broadcast the FM programming part-time. Later the AM station played R & B oldies as WCKN but signed off.

During the mid-90s WYAK-FM was also heard on WVCO 94.9. The Yak name was used briefly again before the switch to the K-103.1 name used from 2000 to 2008. John Boy and Billy have been heard in the morning for several years on 103.1 FM.

Sunny 106.5 then moved to 103.1 FM. The 106.5 frequency changed in April 2008 to country and the name to 106.5 The Wolf. Less than two weeks after the Cumulus station's re-incarnation as The Wolf, Cumulus changed WLFF to 106.5 The Coyote. A likely reason was the proximity of 96.9 The Wolf in Charleston, SC; both country stations overlap in Georgetown County.
